The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State University has two upcoming holiday events featuring festive songs, stories and dancing. Both events are free and open to the public.
Fairmont State University hosted the U.S. premiere of “A Day to Remember,” a documentary exploring the 1968 Farmington No. 9 mine disaster and its lasting impact on safety regulations worldwide.
Both Fairmont State men’s and women’s basketball teams received national preseason rankings — the men at No. 5 in the NABC poll and the women at No. 16 in the WBCA poll — as both squads enter the 2025-26 season atop the Mountain East Conference.
Fairmont State student Julia Kirby received a $2,000 scholarship from the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business. Kirby, a native of Calvin, West Virginia, is a double major in business administration, concentrating in marketing and graphic design.
Fairmont State launches its 2025–26 Artist-in-Residence program Oct. 30 with a free Community Halloween Square Dance led by Annick Odom. The series includes classes, performances and a spring presidential lecture.
