Buckhannon’s mountain biking community is expanding with more trails, weekly group rides, youth teams and events aimed at bringing girls and new riders into the sport. Volunteers and local groups are building momentum through the Upshur County Trails system.
Volunteer-organized Upshur County Trails have drawn more hikers, runners and cyclists in recent years, hosting school meets and regional visitors. The all-volunteer group is fundraising to support trail projects and local racing teams.
Appalachian Impact will open a new downtown location on East Main Street next year, adding a children’s museum and interactive learning spaces for ages 0–10. The move aims to expand programs, deepen community partnerships and offer more accessible services.
Buckhannon Community Theatre opens its fall production of Puffs Oct. 23–26 at the Colonial Arts Center, a comedic homage to a famous wizarding saga told from the Puffs’ perspective. Local cast members say the show is a laugh-out-loud, community experience.
Literacy Volunteers of Upshur County is holding its biggest fundraiser Oct. 16-18 at The Outpost and Event Center in Buckhannon. The sale, which helps cover operating costs, will feature thousands of titles. Volunteers are needed to help move and sort books.
Community members gathered Sept. 28 at Jawbone Park to dedicate the Gold Star Mothers Rose Garden, a living memorial honoring families who lost loved ones in military service and connected to the park’s Walk of Valor.
